30 Aug Prehung Doors
Step 1
Carefully place glue on the miters and dados of the header.
Step 2
Set the header in place.
Step 3
The next step is to plumb hinge side by placing a 4 foot level on the edge side of the door (not jamb). Once the door is plumb, the hinge side is nailed in place by nailing through the back edge of the casing (trim). Once the hinge side is secure, the header can be nailed in place. It is important at this point to keep consistent spacing between the header and the top of the door (the reveal). Now the striker side can be nailed into place; again keeping proper spacing all the way down the edge of the door.
Step 4
The next step is to plumb hinge side by placing a 4 foot level on the edge side of the door (not jamb).
Step 5
Once the door is plumb, the hinge side is nailed in place by nailing through the back edge of the casing (trim). Once the hinge side is secure, the header can be nailed in place. It is important at this point to keep consistent spacing between the header and the top of the door (the reveal).
Step 6
Now the striker side can be nailed into place; again keeping proper spacing all the way down the edge of the door. Now the door stop is nailed into place. Maintain a spacing of 1-3/8″ up the striker side of the jamb
Step 7
The hinge side should be left away from the door slightly so the door does not bind on the door stop and this also allows for paint. The door is complete!
